The Fastest and Most Powerful 911 Ever Built

Porsche 997 GT2

This 911 GT2 was test-driven in Germany by our European reviewer until we get our hands on our very own version in Japan.

Identity :
A 911 Turbo with rear wheel drive, 530 horsepower thanks to two turbochargers with a larger compressor wheel and a flow-optimised turbine housing raising the turbo pressure even higher. Add to this PCCB brakes featuring brake discs made of a carbon/ceramic, titanium exhaust tailpipes, some cutting edge electronic control technology and there you have it…the fastest and most powerful Porsche 911 ever built. An extreme version of the 911 Turbo when the 911 GT3 does the same at a lower level with the 911 Carrera 4.

Headlines :
Twin-turbocharged Flat 6 cylinders engine, 3.6 liter, 530hp, rear wheel drive .
4.47m long, 1440kg or 3175lbs, 147 bhp / liter.
Manual gearbox, 6 speeds, ceramic/carbon brakes.
0 to 100 km/h : 3’’7,
Top speed : 329 km/h or 204 mp/h
Price : 191 240 € or 301 365 $

Design :
The classic and ever-spectacular Porsche 911 look, very similar to the 997 Turbo version with the exception of a couple details such as a bigger rear spoiler plus different bumpers and bonnet.

Interior :
Leather and Alcantara, the interior reminded us of the 911 Turbo or GT3 with wonderful carbon fiber bucket seats. As always with Porsche, the quality of certain materials, especially plastics, could have been better when you consider the price of the car but the overall build quality is excellent and feels very solid. Porsche also offers a free “ClubSport” pack including a roll cage, fire extinguisher and other goodies you might need on a proper race track…the place where this GT2 belongs.

On the road :
Far from the smooth power of the 997 Turbo, the GT2 feels more like a Carrera GT than a 911 and a strong pressure on the gas sends you to cyberspace. The GT2 offers outstanding performance and sensations to whoever has the skills to master it, because 530 horsepower in the back, sent to the rear wheels only , require experience, control and a big heart.

Final words :
Probably the most fascinating and challenging 911 that one could possibly drive. The GT2 is a true road-legal GT, the kind that can be used as a daily driver and put most of the competition to shame once on a racing circuit, in the exact same configuration. The acceleration, braking and handling are exceptional, the GT2 would have easily been at the top of its class if the surprising Nissan GT-R hadn’t stolen the show for one third of the Porsche’s price…no matter what, the 911 GT2 benefits from a stronger image and it makes no doubt that all sportscars enthusiast would love to own one.
