Ferrari and Panerai Unveil a New Watch Collection at the British International Motor Show
Ferrari Engineered by Officine Panerai Watch Collection Debuts at the British International Motor Show Time and Sport: An all Italian fusion: Ferrari Engineered by Officine Panerai is delighted to announce its debut at the British International Motor Show. The collection of high-end watches from the luxury Italian watch brand Officine Panerai will be on public display for the first time at this year's 'Ultimate Collection' at the ExCeL Centre in Docklands. Great passion, and also technology, design, style, class, tradition and sports qualities are all elements that unite Officine Panerai and Ferrari, two names representing the highest level of "made in Italy" creativity throughout the world. This range of watches is divided into two collections, Scuderia and Granturismo. The fusion between Panerai and Ferrari is illustrated by the parallels in the appearance of a chronograph with buttons and the rear view of a Ferrari: the Prancing Horse which stands out at the centre, buttons that resemble Ferrari tail lights, the profile of the case, and the convex crystal like the rear window. Engraved on the cases and bracelets of all the 19 models presented from 2006 until now, three of which are special editions and particularly precious and exclusive watches, is an inscription that expresses and illustrates the working practice of the watch engineers. It reads: Engineered by Officine Panerai. It's a matter of meticulous, precise research carried out by observing in a precise and painstaking manner all Ferrari models created in its 60 year history. This has been at the font of inspiration in achieving the production of a range of watches in which the best materials, and a manic attention to detail, merge into perfection. Four new models have been added to the collection in 2008: Ferrari 10 Days GMT £8,900 (Scuderia Collection) Ferrari 8 Days Chrono Monopulsante GMT Classic £10,400 (Granturismo collection) Ferrari 1/8th Second £10,400 (Special Edition) Ferrari Chronograph £28,300 (Special Edition) The watches will be on display at the British International Motor Show from Tuesday, July 22nd – Sunday, August 3rd. ABT Audi RS6 Avant
Sometimes all a man wants is to go fast from point A to B and sometimes we don't even want to designate a point B to keep on going fast but then we have to drop the kids at school and other silly things unless...unless you're driving this car: the ABT Audi RS6 Avant. With such a look, your wife won't suspect anything and you'll still create envy and fear in the eyes of your neighbours, the thing is that we're talking about a Twin Turbo V10 engine and an All Wheel Drive Quattro System. Straight out of your nearest Audi showroom you'd get 580 bhp and that's enough to anihilate 99.99% of anything road legal but the guys at ABT have decided the engine had more potential. How they did it is irrelevant (probably lots of ECU tuning and more) but the thing is they managed to get 700hp and 800nm out of the RS6 Avant, arguably the quickest family estate a man can get at the moment. 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds and top speed of 200mph. New Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport
The world's most significant celebration of the automobile takes place annually in Monterey, California. This year it will see some of the most elegant, exclusive, and valuable vehicles ever produced in over 100 years of motoring, with Bugatti set to play a prominent role. On the evening prior to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the highlight of the event, the marque renowned for impeccable automotive solutions, aesthetics and driving dynamics will unveil a second model to the world – the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport with a unique removable roof. In response to customer demand, significant modifications have been made to the vehicle's complex structure to make possible open-top driving, thereby adding a new dimension to this high-performance sports car. Incorporating a host of new and innovative safety and equipment features, it is the world's fastest and most exciting roadster. It is immediately recognizable as a result of its slightly higher windscreen, stylized daytime running lights, and lightweight, transparent polycarbonate roof. The main challenge in developing the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport with removable roof resulted from the unique structure of the fixed-roof Bugatti Veyron. An optimum combination of rigidity and lightweight engineering ensures the monocoque passenger cell of the original model is extremely strong while weighing an absolute minimum – it is a central element of the vehicle's structure. As the roof is an integral part of this, removing it meant the load paths had to be completely redesigned to maintain the vehicle's rigidity and crash safety, and to offer additional protection from side impacts and rolling. As a result, the monocoque structure has been reinforced around the side skirts and the transmission tunnel. The B-pillars have been cross-stiffened using a carbon fibre support, and a central carbon plate has been positioned beneath the transmission tunnel to ensure the vehicle suffers from less torsional flexing than any other roadster. The doors of the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport are made of carbon fibre, and house an integrated longitudinal beam. In the event of an accident, this transfers the load from the A to the B-pillar, thereby dissipating impact energy. Furthermore, the two redesigned air intakes for the 16-cylinder mid-engine now feature 10-centimetre wide carbon-fibre elements to offer protection should the car roll. Along with moisture-resistant, backstitched leather, a range of new equipment features has been added to the interior, including a reversing camera with 2.7-inch monitor in the rear-view-mirror, and the "Puccini" sound system with digital signal processor. When the roof is closed, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport can reach 407 km/h, while speeds of up to 360 km/h are possible with roof off. Should it rain, an innovative folding roof stored in the luggage compartment can be opened up like an umbrella at any time. When this folding roof is in place, the car can travel at up to 130 km/h. Assembled by hand at the company's headquarters in Molsheim, Alsace, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport will be available from March 2009 at the price of 1.4 million euros (excluding tax). Just 150 examples will be made, with the first 50 of these going exclusively to registered Bugatti customers. The first vehicle is certain to be highly sought after, and Bugatti has taken the decision to donate this specific car to charity. It will be sold to the highest bidder at the Pebble Beach Auction presented by Gooding & Company. (...)
Spyker C8 Aileron
Spyker Cars N.V., manufacturer of exclusive premium sports cars, is again present at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Carmel, California, USA, from Wednesday August 13, until Sunday August 17, 2008. Spyker has attended this event since its rebirth in 2000 and is present for the eighth consecutive time. The presence of Spyker marks the US debut of the all aluminium LWB model Spyker C8 Aileron. On Sunday, August 17, during the Annual Concept Car Display on the Concept Lawn in front of The Lodge at Pebble Beach, the Spyker C8 Aileron will be prominently displayed. >From Thursday, August 14, through Sunday, August 17, a C8 Spyder and a C8 Laviolette will be on display at the Spyker stand on Peter Hay Hill. Two additional Spykers will be on display at the McCalls Motorworks event on Wednesday, August 13 and at the Quail Lodge on Friday, August 15. Spyker C8 Aileron (concept car) Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6, Spyker is proud to introduce the concept of its second generation C-line sports car in the United States of America. The Long Wheel Base model C8 Aileron can be specified with either manual or automatic transmission. The all aluminium C8 Aileron continues Spyker’s signature architecture (applied since its inception in 2000 with the C8 Spyder) of a mid-engined configuration in an aluminium space frame, clad in aluminium body panels. The Aileron’s space frame is an advanced design from its original, as seen on the first generation of the Spyker models: its torsional rigidity was improved by 40% without adding any weight. Its dimensions have been modified, increasing the wheelbase by 100 mm / 4.5 inches for improved road handling, more cockpit space and to suit the automatic gearbox. Furthermore, its front track was widened and as a result the car is virtually ‘square’. The Aileron will continue to use a 4.2 litre V8 producing 400 BHP. This engine is mated to a 6 speed Getrag manual or a 6 speed automatic ZF gearbox. Every Aileron will be equipped with a Kharma sound system, incorporating a GPS system, Bluetooth, CD player and I-pod connectivity. The Spyker C8 Aileron is scheduled to go into production at the end of 2008. Spyker C8 Spyder & Laviolette The Spyker C8 is an advanced mid-engine, two-seat sports car, available in both coupe (Laviolette) and convertible (Spyder). It is characterized by a distinctive design, a lightweight all aluminium body construction and an uncompromising engineering package. Both the Laviolette and Spyder have an all aluminium Audi V8 engine producing 400 bhp and generating 480 Nm of torque. This is paired to a manual six-speed gearbox, driving the rear wheels with a limited slip differential and ABS. The extremely low kerb weight of only 2,800lbs along with the impressive performance delivers a top speed of 187 mph and an acceleration from 0-60 mph in a mere 4.5 seconds. Optional features include a turned aluminium dashboard fascia, elegant 19” Aeroblade™ wheels, quilted leather detailing for the cockpit and Chronoswiss dashboard instruments. Additionally, complete bespoke and unique finishes are available for the experienced connoisseur. Customers may also order a Louis Vuitton luggage set exclusively made for Spyker – the only car company in the world to have such an arrangement with the famous French design house. All cars are available in both left and right hand drive and are hand-crafted using only the finest bespoke materials to create the unique automotive statements. Each car is a testament to the five brand values that the company lives by - heritage, design, craftsmanship, performance and exclusivity. (...)
The New Audi RS 6: The Confidently Superior Sports Sedan from Quattro GmbH
# Twin-turbo V10 producing 426 kW (580 hp) and 650 Nm of torque. # Racing-inspired direct injection and dry-sump lubrication # A wealth of high-tech for superior performance 426 kW (580 hp) and 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) of torque – with its twin-turbo V10 and Quattro permanent all-wheel drive, the Audi RS 6 is a car without equal. Following on the heels of the RS 6 Avant, Audi now presents this sedan. It drives like a supercar thanks to its superior performance and thrilling dynamics, yet offers all of the everyday utility of a large business sedan. The engine of the new Audi RS 6 is a high-tech work of art. The 4,991 cc V10 bundles a number of Audi’s race-winning technologies – FSI direct fuel injection, dry-sump lubrication and two turbochargers. With up to 1.6 bar of boost pressure, these provide smooth, powerful thrust and an incomparable power band: The peak torque of 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) is available from 1,500 to 6,250 rpm and thus nearly over the entire rev range. Peak power of 426 kW (580 hp) is generated between 6,250 rpm and the maximum figure of 6,700 rpm. With a power-to-weight ratio of 3.4 kilograms per hp, the Audi RS 6 performs like a supercar. It catapults to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.5 seconds on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph), which can be optionally raised to 280 km/h (173.98 mph). The V10 responds immediately and spontaneously to the throttle, and is very smooth while accelerating with a powerful roar. The engine’s power flows through the six-speed tiptronic, one of a new, dynamic generation of Audi automatic transmissions. Its reaction time has been reduced to one tenth of a second, shift time has been halved compared to units used in other models and transmission ratios are short. The driver can also manually change gears either using the shift lever or the paddles on the steering wheel. The tiptronic transmission transfers the power to an extremely sporty, rear-weighted Quattro drive train. Precision high-tech suspension The technology bundled into the suspension of the Audi RS 6 guarantees an amazing performance experience. The front axle features four lightweight aluminum control arms per wheel, whose elastokinematics have been designed for particularly sporty performance. The characteristics of the speed-dependent servotronic power steering were retuned and the steering gear ratio is a direct 12.5:1. The rear suspension kinematics have also been modified. The development engineers have also deployed an exclusive damping technology: Dynamic Ride Control DRC reduces pitch and roll using purely mechanical means. Hydraulic lines and valves connect diagonally opposed pairs of shock absorbers. When cornering, the flow of fluid to the damper of the compressing outside front wheel increases, providing firmer support and reducing roll. When combined with the sports suspension plus, DRC offers a choice of three selectable damper settings – sport, dynamic and comfort – which can be activated via the MMI. The electronic stabilization system ESP offers maximum driving fun with uncompromised safety. Its relatively high activation threshold encourages a dynamic driving style. It offers a Sport mode and can also be deactivated entirely. The new Audi RS 6 rolls on 19-inch alloy wheels shod with 255/40 tires. Up front, six-piston fixed aluminum calipers – painted black and decorated with RS badges – clamp down on 390 millimeter brake disks. The rear brake disks measure 365 millimeters in diameter. The rear axle features single-piston floating brake calipers. The floating steel disks feature large cooling ducts and axial perforations for enhanced performance and less weight. 9.5J x 20-inch wheels are offered as an option. These allow the use of a ceramic brake system. The 420 (front) and 356 (rear) millimeter disks weigh a total of 12.2 kilograms (26.90 lb) less than the steel disks. The calipers – up front with eight pistons – are painted anthracite and labeled “Audi ceramic.” The body of the 4.93 meter (16.17 ft) RS 6 also sports a number of distinctive features that immediately identify it as a dynamic, top-of-the-line model. These include the single-frame grill, the air intakes, the headlights featuring xenon plus, adaptive light and RS 6-specific LED daytime running lights, the flared fenders and deep side skirts, the rear diffuser, the spoiler integrated into the trunk lid and the two large oval exhaust pipes. The finest of materials and uncompromised quality Like all Audi RS models developed and built by Quattro GmbH in cooperation with AUDI AG, the RS 6 is the embodiment of power, elegance, exclusivity and perfection. The interior is adorned with the finest of materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum, piano lacquer, leather and Alcantara in tried-and-tested Audi quality. The deeply sculpted sports seats provide optimal support and firm hold. The power-adjustable seats are upholstered in Silk Nappa leather, with leather/Alcantara and Valcona leather available as options. Bucket seats with an even more sporty emphasis are also offered for both driver and front passenger. Standard equipment includes the dual-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning plus, a parking assistant at front and rear, an RS leather multifunction sports steering wheel with flat-bottomed rim and a Bose surround sound system. A boost pressure indicator for the two turbochargers in the driver information system rounds out the instrumentation. The options are also pure hi-tech: Audi lane assist helps to keep the car in its lane, adaptive cruise control maintains a constant distance to the car ahead and Audi side assist helps the driver change lane safely. The Audi Bluetooth car phone integrates perfectly with the driver’s cell phone to make even using the phone a luxurious experience. It is integrated into the standard MMI operating system, a new generation of which is making its debut in the Audi RS 6. The Audi RS 6 will be launched on the market in mid-October. The starting price in Germany including VAT is 105,550 euros. (...)
IFR Aspid, Sheer Driving Pleasure from Spain
Aspid’s performance and environmental credentials attract customers, media, and motor industry alike – IFR now seeking to appoint dealers. More than 100 potential customers have signed up for an exclusive two days of high performance motoring thrills test driving the new Aspid sports car. Following the successful introduction of the car, IFR Automotive is now seeking to create a network of international dealers. Described by a leading motoring magazine as the “Bugatti from Barcelona”, the compact two-seater attracted a high level of interest when it swept in quietly under the radar following five years of secret development to make its world debut at the British International Motor Show. IFR, an automotive engineering consultancy that developed the supercar, expects most of its clientele will use the ride and drive event to confirm their interest and place deposits. It means the company could be facing a full order book for the next couple of years as it plans to produce the exclusive hand-built cars at the rate of less than one a week. IFR is determined not to fall into the classic trap of setting unrealistically high sales targets and can make the project profitable building even fewer than 50 cars a year. By restricting the number of cars it builds it is also aiming to protect the investment of its clientele. “We’ve been absolutely delighted with the level of interest from customers, the media and industry alike,” said company founder and automotive engineer Ignacio Fernandez. “Naturally, we’re thrilled that so many people have signed up for this unique opportunity to evaluate the Aspid on test tracks and public roads. “We’ve worked very hard to redefine the modern sportscar and make it relevant to the needs of the 21st century. Almost everyone we met at the show has recognised that a lightweight and compact design is the way forward. We’ve aimed for a car with outstanding performance and driveability. And its exceptionally low mass ensures excellent fuel economy and correspondingly low CO2 emissions.” The opportunity for the drive of a lifetime will take place in the mountains of northern Spain, close to the coastal cities of Tarragona and Barcelona, where the company is based. The test drive will most likely include the precipitous roads used for the main stages of the Catalonia Rally, which has formed part of the Aspid’s natural proving ground during its five year development programme. Weighing in at less than 700kg, yet full of luxury touches such as climate control and touch screens as well as having an enclosed cabin, the Aspid represents a new breed of lightweight compact sports car. Packed full of advanced technical innovations in the chassis, suspension, brakes and electronic systems, the Aspid offers exceptional performance particularly relating to road holding, handling and safety. Interestingly, the majority of potential customers for the car have expressed a preference for the more expensive supercharged model, which is priced at £107,000, more so than the 270bhp naturally aspirated version which will be sold at £75,000. “Prospective customers have worked out that you can spend a lot more preparing other makes of cars for the race track,” says Fernandez. “With the Aspid it all comes as standard. The car is unique inasmuch as it meets FIA safety requirements as well as European homologation standards; so it really can be driven from the road directly onto the race track without the need for any special preparation. And after a hard race the car is robust, durable and safe enough to be driven again on public roads.” Potential clients also seem to appreciate the personal touch. Fernandez remained on the stand throughout the motor show answering every question imaginable that has been put to him about the car he’s created and the company he’s founded. “We particularly enjoyed the visits from other carmakers interested in the Aspid’s technology, which can be applied to a wide range of vehicles,” said Fernandez. “The need to significantly reduce the weight of all vehicles is a highly topical subject and important to the entire industry in terms of delivering personal mobility that is environmentally friendly, socially acceptable and economically sustainable. “We’ve also been pleased with comments from motoring journalists and other media who took the opportunity for a close look at the car while it was at the show,” added Fernadez. The Autocar website, for example, has a video of their writers’ pick of the best cars at the show. Deputy news editor Will Powell cast his vote for the Aspid as being “something special in low volume sports cars” citing the “loads of clever technology and loads of carbon fibre”. In the magazine itself, news editor Dan Stevens refers to the “tiny two-seater … as a showcase for some clever new technologies that could be used in more conventional, higher-volume vehicles.” The Aspid also proved a favourite with Dan Trent, a journalist with the popular MSN Cars motoring website, which placed the car in its Top 10 for the show: “The amazing build quality and astonishing technology had me stunned. And then I heard about the sub-3 sec 0-62 time. Check out the interior too and the neat F1 style steering wheel with all the controls and dials incorporated into one unit. And if you go to a track you can even download telemetry from a previous lap by a pro driver and it will flash up braking points on the steering wheel for you. Seriously cool.” Not surprisingly, the Spanish media have written extensively about their home grown talent in vehicle design with coverage in the leading national daily newspapers ABC and El Pais as well as a front cover story and articles in the regional dailies El Punt and El Periodico and the local newspaper Diari de Tarragona. The Spanish weekly car magazines Autobild, Hebdo Sport, Auto Pista and Motor 16 have all written about the car. It’s not the first time that Ignacio Fernandez has received accolades from a motor show appearance. In Detroit in 2001 he was part of the design team responsible for the Cadillac Cien concept, officially recognised as the best engineered car at the show. (...)

"We are very proud to launch the C6 Corvette GTR with Rollie Purifoy, from Purifoy Chevrolet, and Jeff Cauley, from Cauley Chevrolet and Cauley Ferrari," said Jeff Nowicki, Specter Werkes/Sports founder. "The new GTR offers enthusiasts everything they're looking for in a sports car - performance, great looks, and guaranteed exclusivity." Custom paint treatment is also available. Each vehicle is hand-built, numbered and fully documented for the customer. Distinctive design: Styling that accents the Corvette's design is a hallmark of Specter Werkes/Sports, and the C6 GTR takes that philosophy to the next level with a completely redesigned body. Like the original C5 GTR, the C6 version is based on widened bodywork that supports the larger wheel/tire combination. It also gives the car a more aggressive stance - as do the racing-inspired front and rear fascias. "The GTR's design sharpens and embellishes many of the Corvette's design cues, but doesn't eliminate them," said Nowicki. "It is a design that respects and celebrates the Corvette's design heritage, but builds on it to suit the interest of our customers - enthusiasts who are looking for a unique and exclusive product." At 77 inches, the GTR's bodywork is 4.5 inches wider at the rear fenders (2.25 inches per side) than a regular-production C6 Corvette and 1 inch wider than the Corvette Z06. The physical differences may seem small, but the overall effect, along with a slightly longer overall body length, creates a unique proportion to the GTR that is aggressive and suggests speed even when stationary. Specter Werkes/Sports replaces the front and rear fenders; front and rear fascias; doors, rocker panels, and hood - everything except the roof panel and rear hatch - with special, hand-formed GTR panels. Each car is completely repainted and re-assembled with the new bodywork at Specter Werke's Troy, Mich. facility. GTR standard equipment also includes a number of exposed carbon fiber details, including: *Front splitter *Rear diffuser *Outside mirror caps *Headlamp surrounds A bold, LED-lit rear center-mounted stop lamp is integrated in the rear fascia. It was originally designed for the Cadillac CTS, and gives the GTR an unmistakable rear appearance. GTR #1 details: C6 Corvette GTR #1 is powered by Specter's emissions-legal Matrix II engine package for the LS3 engine. It is a "stroker" engine package that boosts displacement from 376 cubic inches (6.2L) to 416 cubic inches (6.8L). That is achieved with a Callies 4340-forged crankshaft that delivers a 4.00-inch stroke. Forged rods from Manley and forged pistons from Mahle round out the rotating assembly. The camshaft is a special grind from Comp Cams and the LS3 heads' combustion chambers were enlarged from 71cc to 72cc in order to maintain an 11:1 compression ratio. With stainless steel long tube headers and a low-restriction air intake, the engine is rated at 535 horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque. The engine also features carbon fiber fuel rail covers and a yellow-painted intake manifold. The Matrix II LS3 channels power to the pavement via Forgeline VR3P wheels, measuring 19 x 11 inches in the front and 20 x 12 inches in the rear. They are wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Zero Press tires (285/30ZR19, front, and 335/25ZR20, rear). Behind the wheels are StopTech brakes, featuring ST60 six-piston calipers and 15-inch slotted rotors in the front and ST40 four-piston calipers and 14-inch slotted rotors in the rear. The calipers' yellow color contrasts with the HRE wheels' black center sections. The GTR also features Hotchkis adjustable stabilizer bars. On the outside, C6 GTR #1 is painted a gorgeous BASF liquid silver, the richness of which appears wet to the touch. It is a premium color choice and represents the nearly unlimited paint options available to customers. Inside, GTR-standard embroidered seats and Spinneybeck leather trim details contrast elegantly with the Corvette's black interior. A Specter Werkes/Sports production plaque is mounted on the center console.
